EME is the oldest Memphis-based manufacturer’s representative firm in our HVAC industry still operating under the original family management. Established in1970, EME has always stated in their letterhead: “Representing Quality Manufacturers” – a policy that continues today. EME was incorporated in 1976 and has been located off Sam Cooper Boulevard since 1983.
Our combined experience of well over 100 years in the HVAC industry puts us in a strong position to apply the products we sell. EME’s strong emphasis on applied engineering of products represented has placed us in a unique position of involvement in a diverse field of specialty equipment. These include large infrared heating systems, air filtration and indoor air quality applications, pumping systems, permanent cooling towers, boiler and grease duct vents, clean rooms, packaged pumping systems, prefabricated and pre-insulated piping systems, flow control products, boilers, water heaters, air handling systems, variable frequency drives, and instruments.
Major projects have included: Methodist Hospital Central Energy Plant; the FedX Forum; Methodist Hospitals North and South cooling towers; Memphis International Airport; FedX Worldwide headquarters; State Technical Institute; University of Memphis; University of Mississippi; Plough, Inc.; Baptist Hospitals East, /South / Huntington / DeSoto; University of Tennessee; University of Arkansas Central Energy Plant, Memphis Zoo; Rhodes College Barrett Library; St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital; Smith and Nephew; to name a few.
Ken Jack, founder and ex-chairman, received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. Following completion of military service, he returned to Memphis to join the firm of Minneapolis Honeywell as applications and field engineer. Six years later, Ken joined the Memphis consulting firm of Samuel L Burns, Inc. in setting up the Mid-South’s first independent testing and balancing firm known as Technical Services. The out-growth of Technical Services is the present-day firm of Systems Analysis and Balancing. Prior to establishing EME in 1970, Ken returned to the controls field in joining the G. H. Avery Company as Barber-Coleman Controls and Air Distribution specialist, also involved in the application of fans and applied air products. He is a registered and licensed Professional Engineer. Ken served as President of the Memphis ASHRAE chapter in 1975 – 75 and has served in various regional and national committee assignments including the national nominating committee and is a Life Member of ASHRAE. Ken served on the Board of Directors of the Memphis Union Mission. Ken’s wife, Betty, served as secretary of the corporation.
Evans Jack, now president, joined the firm full time in 1988 after working part time while in high school and college. Evans has served as President of the Memphis ASHRAE chapter in 1998 – 99 after serving in all the chapter chairs and again serving as President for 2005-06. Evans achieved Eagle Scout rank and is an alumnus of the Phoenix Club. He is also active in his church and political organizations.
Margaret Jefferson handles our Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payables, and works with our warehouse and parts sales.
Mike DeGroff mans our Nashville office and joined EME in April 2007. Mike's Industrial background lends his understanding for our products in the Nashville Market which include Co-Ray-Vac Gas-Fired, Low Intensity Infra-Red Heating Systems, Purafil GasPhased Air Filtration Systems, Vulcan Radiation Finned-Tube, Combat Warm Air Make-up Air - Air Rotation and Unit Heaters, and Tower Engineering - Permanent Tile-Fill cooling towers
